Rundown, Traffic & Local EPG
The canonical v24 operating procedure for building a complete broadcast day, publishing schedules to HVN, authorizing playout, local-market inheritance, and National/local commercial substitution.
The three gates
| Gate | Effect | Does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Publish to HVN Website | Makes the selected market/day visible in the audience EPG. | Does not authorize or start playout. |
| Approve Day for Air | Allows the automation resolver to use that day after readiness checks. | Does not arm the market. |
| Go Live / Arm This Market | Lets approved schedule automation control the program bus. | Does not publish an unpublished EPG. |
Build a full broadcast day
- Select service date and market.
- The rundown spans 12:00 AM–11:59 PM.
- Add Program, Live Event, Standby, and Commercial Break blocks.
- Program/Live/Standby are primary blocks and cannot overlap each other in one market.
- Commercial Break blocks intentionally overlap Program or Live Event windows but cannot overlap another break in the same market.
- Attach an air-ready master to every prerecorded Program block.
- Use Day Readiness before Publish or Air Approval.
National and local schedules
Supported schedule markets: National, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Antonio, and Miami.
Local days default to Inherit National. A local Program/Live/Standby block replaces overlapping National primary programming for that market. A published local EPG therefore shows inherited National blocks plus local overrides. Turn inheritance off only for a fully independent local schedule.
National/local commercial substitution
- Build/approve commercial creatives.
- Create a break clock in Commercial Break Builder.
- Place the National break clock on the National rundown at the intended avail.
- For a local substitution, place a market-owned break clock over the same/part of that window on the local rundown.
- The local clock takes priority while active; National fills any remainder.
Scheduled break blocks are not audience EPG entries. They are traffic instructions.
What happens to the underlying program
| Program source | During commercials |
|---|---|
| Uploaded prerecorded master | The file program timeline is held. The break plays, then the file resumes where it was interrupted. Fresh viewers joining during/after the break receive a pause-adjusted playhead. |
| Live / OBS / future sports contribution feed | The live source continues underneath the break. The break covers/mutes it and returns to whatever is live when the pod ends. |
Live Event / future HVN Sports hook
Use a Live Event block for events whose program source is live rather than an uploaded master. v24 routes this block to the live program bus while preserving the same National/local traffic and graphics architecture. Dedicated sports contribution/backup-feed controls can be added later without redesigning the rundown model.
Minimum staging rehearsal
☐ Published EPG remains off-air while disarmed
☐ Approved day remains off-air while disarmed
☐ Arm starts correct master
☐ Local EPG inherits National correctly
☐ Local program override works
☐ National break works
☐ Local break substitutes only in selected market
☐ Prerecorded show resumes without skipping content
☐ Fresh viewer joins mid-break at correct ad/playhead
☐ TAKE LIVE / OBS works
☐ RETURN TO SCHEDULE works
☐ National Screen Bug remains transparent over program
